you do not have to be skinny to view this blog, the title is for coolness only

i am a seventeen year old girl living in melbourne. i go to a rare school that allows me to do three fashion subjects which is mad cool. i do my best to make the most of every moment and try to push myself outside of my comfort zone, gosh i hate that word. screw smoking and sleeping around, i don't want the clap or tuberculosis. i am happy with my health, my friends, my fam, cat and tidy light blue bedroom with roses and leather on the walls. i admire russell brand's charisma, justin bieber's voice, t-pain in general and my cat bok choy for being so flexible that he can lick his own privates. oh and my name's karista

La Vie De La Femme

Just yesterday, I commenced a photo shoot with my friend, Chloe and I think it went fairly well. It's for the 2nd theme in my year 12 Art Photography folio.

La Vie De La Femme means Life of the Woman in French. It is all about the life of the extravagant woman, the woman who although is broke... remains eccentric and glamorous. I gathered inspiration from two main sources, 1. The latest collection campaign for Alannah Hill (AW'10) and 2. The scene in Paris When It Sizzles where Gabi has a luxurious bath on a movie set and her hair is done just so darlingly. I love it when Audrey says "Quite alright! I always carry a packet of bubble bath in my purse. I'm getting on swimmingly!"

Anyway, so here are some photos...

I'll Be

It's one of my favourite songs at the moment.
Especially to sing to, even if I sound dreadful...
There are various covers, I like the Goo Goo Dolls version..

The strands in your eyes
That color them wonderful
Stop me and steal my breath
Emeralds from mountains
Thrust towards the sky
Never revealing their depth

Tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I'll be captivated,
I'll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows
Of heartache that hang from above

I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life

Rain falls angry on the tin roof
As we lie awake in my bed
You're my survival
You're my living proof
My love is alive and not dead

Tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I'll be captivated
I'll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows
Of heartache that hang from above

I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life

I've dropped out
Burned up
Fought my way back from the dead
Tuned in
Turned on
Remembered the things you said

I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life

I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of you life

Cover Art

I have been told to display 15 examples of cover art that I like in my folio for Visual Communication. It's been hell for me in this subject at school, finally, 4 weeks into term 2 we have an assignment that we can actually display some creativity. We are to design a CD album cover for any band, I'm tossing up between Vampire Weekend's Horchata and OK GO's Of the Blue Colour of the Sky (just using the band name and album name etc). Here are my chosen covers:

i love the liquid in his collar bone. it is all so advanced for his time..
which i admire

the shades have really inspired me in this one,
i might do something with glasses in my design

the triangles are what attracted me to listen to Yacht's music in the first place,
triangles have a secret i reckon

i bet this is what movie stars puke up in the toilet, glitter
super nintendo, cats, toy gun in the underpants. sweet

you can almost make any polaroid an album cover, simplicity is the best

like i said, simplicty. and the use of line is just so eye-catching

i like this cos i could just paint something, fold it in half so it
becomes symmetrical, let it dry and scan it. and there's my cover

it's kind of as if there are little safes in walls all over,
and secrets and lies are locked up in them

i don't have much to say about this. i just dig it a whole lot. beautiful

i reckon this is just cool, it is balanced. makes me think of
the future and space and questions

without the red and blue whatever-you-wanna-call-its, this would
be boring. but its unusual and smart. like they're connected

reminds me of star wars, our old ugly olive green couch and
hide and seek. never seen the snow

i love the deflated balloon, how could you not. it is so simple
and it suits the actual album really perfectly. great album

i like this because i love water colour. it's not done much on
cover art so i like that it is indavidual, i want to paint like this

makes me think about the mighty boosh, new age beliefs,
outer space, greek gods and of course, magic

I've never really thought about cover art as inspiration for anything but this assignment has really
taught me something. Inspiration can be found anywhere and these images have definitely inspired and given me ideas for other things like fashion and art photography.
Always try to find something good you can get out of whatever you are given,
that's another little something that I've learnt.

Oh, and don't put things off!!! I'm telling that to myself 'cos that's what I'm actually doing right now, should be annotating these in my folio rather than on my blog. See!? haha, I always sabotage myself. I will somehow find something that will distract me from my work, and instead I'm talking about it on my blog, so so silly I am.

I have got to discipline myself better.

Prehistoric, Caveman, The Flinstones

About a month ago, my hair was fairly oily so I decided to throw it up into a messy loop bun on top of my head. I like to call them pooffs. To pretty it up a little bit I popped a small animal print bow clip at the base of the bun. Upon gazing at the unintentional cuteness of the do, I realised that it carried a kind of Flinstone/Caveman essence to it. So the idea was sparked, I got googling and gathered pictures of cavemen people and the Flinstones characters etc. Drew a few sketches and got really thinking that oh man, I have totally discovered a look that I've never seen or heard of before, this is going to be wickid cool when I post all about it on my bloggery and everyone will see that I am destined to be a fashion forecaster. Very funny reallyBut then of course (upon my googling) I had to discover a designer that had only just done a show all up in the Flinstone style. I was and am still fairly bummed about that. His name is Jeremy Scott and he is a friggin' genius, definitely is a new favourite designer of mine.
He's super cool man...

See? Isn't this just exquisite? and I never use that word lightly, or... ever.
But I say it for this because although the designs are so basic, they are just so Einstein.
If I knew they existed I would be all over deym bone hair clips/pieces, seriously want to get into that before I get over this look and before the style gets well-known. I made some out of cardboard the other night while my friend was over. She was boring me so I told her, screw you... I cuttin' some cardboard. Haha, she just thought I was weird, but if I can't buy them anywhere then ima make them myself. Hells yeah I would wear these clothes, imagine me turning up to the beach in that purple one piece (above), I'd work it. And just watch the heads turn. Haha, I do not apologise for this strange mood I'm in, although I feel compelled to.

xX hot hot hot hot hot Xx
I also like that the bones look like prehistoric bones rather than just 'doggy toy' bones.
Wickid hair, I try to adapt that do in my own personal way. Like with my top-of-the-head pooff. I super duper want a crimper now, returning to my 12 year old birthday wishlist days. OMG, I just had an epic thought. Thin and Bones right? Arghh! You watch, there's gonna be a top of the page heading alteration soon ;) WOO!!
The nails are insane, same with the eyes but if I started doing that everyday then I'd have to be prepared to write a lot of late notes for school. I think this summer ima get some fairy floss blue streaks in my hair. I've wanted to do it for a while but I'll wait 'til my hair is ash blonde, I think.

=]

So, now... postFlinstone idea discovery moment. I will be watching tv, as always when I happen to flick to the Go channel 99... The Flinstones will be on and I will watch it, smiling... Who'd a thought Fred Flinstone would be a style inspiration, Utter brilliance.
Oh and here is the photograph that I took when I realised my hair was Flinstone-y :;;:;;
Sorry, it is very a bad angle and the quality is shocking... but it was all in the moment ha!
Please comment if you dig this post and sorry it took forever to go up Xx
