you do not have to be skinny to view this blog, the title is for coolness only

i am a seventeen year old girl living in melbourne. i go to a rare school that allows me to do three fashion subjects which is mad cool. i do my best to make the most of every moment and try to push myself outside of my comfort zone, gosh i hate that word. screw smoking and sleeping around, i don't want the clap or tuberculosis. i am happy with my health, my friends, my fam, cat and tidy light blue bedroom with roses and leather on the walls. i admire russell brand's charisma, justin bieber's voice, t-pain in general and my cat bok choy for being so flexible that he can lick his own privates. oh and my name's karista

The world's spinning too fast!

Gee wiz! It has been quite some time since my last post. I hope you all didn't miss me too much.
I think part of the reason why I have been hesitant in blogging lately is not just because I've been too busy with school or 'going through a hard time' or anything like that.
Too be honest, it's just where I'm at right now.
I feel as if I'm between the seasons. One part of me is still loving and going gaga over khaki khaki khaki!! When another part of me is screaming in anger regarding the increasing amount of people that I am seeing everywhere wearing khaki/army bags, army jackets, army this, army that. I liked it when I discovered it because I thought 'great! I have discovered my winter essential, my winter love.' I thought, 'I'm sure people here won't catch onto this look', well I really hoped not.
It's like that quirky unpopular song that you adore and then comes that one gloomy day you hear it on the radio and just know 'ba-bowww!!' it's no longer yours, it's about to become the world's. I'm not saying I own the army look or anything like that but just seeing so many people into it really turns me off it and I don't want that because I really like it and want to stick to it. Anyway, this is my stupid little (extremely) vain and (i suppose, in the long run) unimportant dilemma.

Enough about that. So I'm off to the Gold Coast flying Virgin in approximately 28 hours. It's a little bit of a holiday yet a little bit of a downer since the main reason we are going is to visit my dying Nonno Pino (that's grandpa just if you're wondering) so there are kind of mixed emotions. I'm going up there with my Mum and my Aunty will be there too. My Mum and I haven't seen my grandfather for seven years so it's going to be super weird for sure, I've just got to be prepared for anything I suppose.

I'll have my macbook with me when I'm up there and so I will definitely post a couple of trend reports that I have been eyeing off from New York and Milan fashion week. Some of my favourite things that I've seen are a whole lot of velvet + it being paired with leather, not a lot of denim which makes me smile, also the cat's eye sunglasses.. Of course I start to become obsessed with them and now, what do you know! I bet they'll be the frame on everyone's eyes not too far in the future. I haven't seen a lot around in stores or anything really but I'm always on the lookout!

I'll check back soon guys, you should too!

AA-TEN-TION!!!

This is me out in front of my house in my new jaquette!
I kindly asked my mum to take some shots of me wearing it to post up on my blog, even if it was interrupting her little nap on the couch while Bold and the Beautiful drawled on in the background.
I think today's episode was the first one where there was a wedding scene with no disruptions and no one on their way on a white horse to stop the marriage, silly Brooke!
Anyway!
So the other day after school two of my friends and I were at Box Hill and we went into a Salvos. I couldn't really be bothered shopping but I thought to myself, 'just keep an eye out for a good army/military jacket'. Looking through a rack of some quite alright blazers when, BAM! I saw the love of my Winter! This excited me so much. I tried it on, looked in the mirror, spectaculaaarr! My buddies agreed:) And, it was just 10 bucks! I didn't have the money for it on me at the time but I asked the owner to save it for me 'til tomorrow. They said yes but then my lovely friend Susannah offered to pay for it for me. What a blessing! It's so perfect, best find that I've uhh.. found in a while. So happy, now I actually cannot WAIT for winter!

And hear this: Today I received my usual email from Who What Wear and the title read.. "Go Buy Now: Army Jackets". I jumped for joy for the fact that I'd already gone and bought one.
And I loved what I saw when I clicked the little 'closed envelope' icon...
I'm coveting number 3 the most, personally I think the greener the better.. It's GAP, only 80 dollars. Number 4 isn't bad either, that one was a little over my price range though, about $400. The vesty one is also great, I'm pleased for the fact that studs and big pompous, embellished shoulders will be sticking around for a while.

Galactic Nails

there really are no rules when it comes to nail colours this time of the year. vogue says bright reds/oranges, nylon says go off beat with midnight blue. i say: paint in pretty much whatever nail colour rocks your boat. black is boring, we've seen it all before. white's alright, but if not quality then tends to look as if you were bored in class and got curious with the white out, nasty.
i can't remember where i discovered this photo, im sorry. but isn't it gorgeous. my eyes are currently only attracted to blue, purple and silver at the moment so when i laid them on this, i'm sure they popped out. i want this, its so perfect, reminds me of galaxies.

fairy floss

don't her drawn on eyes look magnificent and real. the solf colour and style of her hair is so enticing and just makes me want to be at one of those summer carnivals and just stuff my face with fairy floss, gorgeous. when i first saw this image i instantly thought Lady Gaga, Alexander McQueen and fairy/pixie. it is such a fantastical shoot. go to models.com to find this shoot of Sasha Pivovarova. for me, she definitely brought her magic off the screen and into the flesh.

long side plaits

of course it all began with Alexander Wang in september last year (SS '10). they're good because if you're hair is dirty or just ratty then a quick side plait makes in look intentional. they're supposed to be messy so it doesn't matter if it was a 2 minute job. these girls have obviously gone a little over the top but i think it looks great
not sure what it is that causes me to just adore this photo, perhaps the perfection of the timing of what's been captured, the girl in the american flag panties eating popcorn with falling all over the place. the girl beside her about to murder that burger. i enjoy the many colours yet it is a little desaturated. it is just so cute

Crushed Velvet

these babies are definitely on my 'want' list this winter. crushed velvet leggings. i know Moschino have a great pair but they are in black i think. a maroon pair would be nice too. just need to find where to buy them. perhaps i could just buy myself some crushed velvet fabric and sew them up myself! wouldn't be too hard.
